"You learn to see things by practice. It's just like playing tennis, you get better the more you play. The more you look around at things, the more you see. The more you photograph, the more you realize what can be photographed and what can't be photographed. You just have to keep doing it." -- Eliot Porter

LOOKING FOR MODELS IN THE KANSAS CITY AREA!
I routinely work on projects that require a variety of models (men, women, and children, both boys and girls). These are not paid assignments, as I have no money. However, this is an excellent opportunity for aspiring models to get practice in front of a camera, and you will receive electronic copies of the finished photographs to use in your portfolio. A background in acting will be beneficial as I don't normally shoot "glamour" type of photographs. Instead, these will be a series of scenes with people interacting. I do not shoot any nude or sexually suggestive material. If you are interested, please contace me at
chrisof4@gmail.com.

Welcome to Photography Journey! I chose the name of this site after much deliberation and introspection about my experiences with photography. After asking questions like, "What kind of photography do I shoot?", and "Where do I want photography to take me?" I kept getting the same answer...I don't know. There is so much you can do with photography and so many different types that a person could spend a lifetime just experimenting.

People often see my camera and ask, "Are you a photographer?" In the sense that I take photographs, I definitely am a photographer. I am not a professional photographer in that photography is not my profession. I make very little money shooting pictures. I really have no desires to be a professional photographer. Turning photography into a job would take much of the joy and passion out of it for me and would probably stifle the creativity and experimentation that I currently enjoy. I want my work to be professional quality, however. I continue to tune and hone my abilities, trying to learn as much as I can, so that I can take the best photographs possible.

The next question people ask is, "What kind of photographs do you take?". It is in the nature of human beings to want to classify and quantify in an effort to better understand something. When people ask that question, they want a simple answer like, "I am a wedding photographer." or, "I am a portrait photographer." I have no such simple answers to give. They type of photography I shoot changes on a daily basis, ranging from professional portraits to photojournalism. I shoot sports. I shoot landscapes. I shoot accident scenes and protests. I shoot insects, flowers, and other types of macro photography. I take family snapshots. In short, I shoot what I see.

That is why I settled on the concept of a journey. Just as life is a journey, so is my photography. On the journey of life, we have no idea how long our journey will last, and ultimately, we have no idea where our journey will take us. We make plans and choices that affect the journey, but none of us truly has any control, and our journey can radically shift without a moment's notice by factors outside of our control. My photography is an extension of my life's journey. My goal is simply to freeze moments of time as they are viewed through my eyes, and from my perspective.

I set up this site to share that journey with you. So, come inside, look around, and let me know you stopped by.
